“I’ll be back to pick you up when you’re done.” Patrick gave Ellery a quick hug and sent her through the gate to the outdoor swimming pool with her swim instructor. He lingered a moment to watch, but it was clear that she was fine with being left at the pool. She had an individual lesson followed by a group lesson, giving him ninety minutes. Since it was a ten-minute drive home, that gave him time for a quickie with Imogen before he had to return.

He couldn’t keep the grin off his face when he got in the truck to return home. The night before with Imogen had been amazing. He wanted a repeat of that and a whole lot more. He walked inside and found Imogen in the living room, lounging on the couch with a book in her hands.

“I didn’t expect you home,” she said, looking up with a smile.

“I thought we might enjoy some kid-free time.” He dropped to his knees on the floor next to her.

“Whatever for?” She batted her eyelashes at him, all with innocence.

“For this.” He skimmed his hand over her breast as he kissed her. Her response was immediate, ramping up his own desire. A moment later he was on the couch next to her, their bodies glued together.

“Wait,” she said, pushing gently at his chest. “I almost forgot. I’d just put Mr. Bubblesworth in the backyard when you came home. I’d better get him before we…”

“Before we… what?” he challenged.

“Before I rip your clothes off you and ride you right here on the living room floor,” she said brazenly, but a blush followed the daring words.

He rolled off her immediately and stretched out on the floor. “Hurry back.” Her description of what would happen between them wasn’t what he’d expect a kindergarten teacher to say, but she’d proved last night that she had plenty of passion in her. She hopped up, and he couldn’t resist running his hand up her sexy bare leg. He got several inches above her knee before she brushed his fingers away and headed for the kitchen.

He put his hands behind his head, letting his imagination take over. He was thinking about how she’d unzip his shorts and—

A scream and Mr. B’s furious barking had him launching himself off the floor and bolting toward the noise.

“Get out!” Imogen’s voice cut through the air as Patrick slid into the kitchen and nearly collided with her. A man dressed in all black with a ski mask covering his face stood in the back door with Imogen’s laptop in his hands and Mr. B’s teeth clamped around one leg. The panic in his eyes was almost comical as he kicked and struggled to free himself from the dog.

Mr. B wasn’t letting go, so the man dropped the laptop and half fell out the back door with the dog still attached to him. Once outside, he started running toward the gate. Mr. B. stayed with him. Patrick was headed for the door, ready for the chase, when he saw Imogen’s ashen face.
